FAULT Magazine Coverstory and Interview With Boy In Space

We first met Boy In Space back in 2020. While then he was touring as a support act, he’s now stepped into the limelight with the release of new EP ‘Backyard’. We caught up with. Boy In Space to discuss the project, his journey and of course, his FAULTs.  

The songs on the EP can vary genre quite a lot, is this by design or more of a reflection of your personal tastes?

Yes with this EP I wanted to show more depth in my songwriting and not just do what’s expected of me.

Tell us about the inspiration behind the track ‘Lean On’?

Lean on is heavily inspired by Red Hot Chili Peppers. From the melody to the lyrics.

What about your songwriter process chan get on Backyard compared to previous releases?

The process never really changed. I think what changed is the inspiration so that’s what is projected into the music.

How would you say Alingsås has inspired your musical journey?

To be honest not a lot but maybe the small-town upbringing gave me a curiosity to travel and to see the world through my music. I wouldn’t say Alingsås inspired me but there was always room for music and spaces where you could perform if you wanted to.

What’s been the most difficult track to create on this project?

All the songs on the EP were actually easy to write. When pop songs are too complicated to write you’re usually overthinking things in my opinion.

When you look back on your musical journey, what’s been the most difficult hurdle to overcome?

I think the biggest hurdle is having a healthy relationship. With work and standing steady in what I believe is good music.

What’s your biggest non-music-related fear?

Defiantly spiders. I wish they were less sneaky and poisonous.

What’s been the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?

To do things just because it sells.

What is your FAULT?

My bad diet at the moment. I’m eating an unhealthy amount of pizza.
