A Tribute to the FAULTLess work of the late Thierry Mugler

Words | Chaunielle Brown

An artful and theatrical visionary, French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler, 73 has left the fashion world in a speechless and devastated state. Mugler’s extravagant creations began to grace the runway with his first premiere collection in Café de Paris, in 1973.

Mugler, ‘The Godfather of 1980s Power Dressing,’ was the iconic presence we did not know we needed, with widened broad shoulders, snatched waists, the unexpected delivered story told, giving unpredictable unfoldings and a theatrical musical presentation on the catwalk. Mugler’s designs have made cameos in George Michael’s Too Funky Video, on Demi Moore in 1993’s Indecent Proposal and has been embodied by artists Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Diana Ross, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Jerry Hall and Madonna.

Mugler was not only a fashion designer, but a creative director, perfumer, directed short films, advertisements and video clips and was a dancer with the Ballet du Rhin by the age of 14. The loss suffered echos throughout a multitude of communities. Love and prayers, we send to his family and loved ones.

The ageless beauty of goldenized inspiration he has left us with will endure evermore. We will remember Mugler, his genius creations and their decadent transformative art, gifted to us all.
