While many first heard Flynn’s soulful voice via his feature on Lost Frequencies’ ‘Recognise’, with the release of his single One Of Us back in April, he’s been making quite the splash off the back of his own talents. Despite only signing his first publishing deal back in August, Flynn’s songwriting talents and seasoned vocal prowess show all the hard work he’s poured into his craft to bring him to this point. With the release of his latest music video for track B-Side, we caught up with Flynn to discuss his musical journey so far and of course, his FAULTs.

 

It’s hard to listen to B-side without joyously nodding your head, but the message is quite a sad one about the end of a relationship, did you always want to mesh those conflicting messages?

Flynn: I think so yeah, I’ve always wanted to take a sad song and turn it into something fun and up-tempo, and I guess this is that song

 

What is the inspiration behind the song?

Flynn: Not to let life’s hard lessons take you down, and to learn from the mistakes made along the way

 

With the huge success of single One Of Us, did you feel pressure to have to top it or are you comfortable taking each song as they come?

Flynn: Kind of, but each song is important to me so I try to forget about the stats and how well they do etc. I just enjoy the whole process of releasing music, but yeah, what’s that saying ‘’you’re only as good as you’re last performance’’ the pressure of that statement is always in the back of my mind I guess

 

 

Back in August, you signed your first ever publishing deal with BMG, tell us how it felt to cross such a career milestone.

Flynn: It felt amazing to be honest! I’ve worked really hard to get to this point and to be involved with such a great team who really understand me and my music makes it all worth it.

 

The journey to becoming a full-time musician is rarely easy, how did you stay motivated to keep pursuing music during the challenging times of your career?

Flynn: I just gave it my full attention and never really got distracted. There was never anything else I wanted to do so I just put my head down and kept trying I guess.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Flynn: Probably to never underestimate anybody and to always be yourself. These two have always stuck with me.

 

What’s the hardest lesson you’ve had to learn in order to take your career to the next level?

Flynn: That you can’t do everything yourself, and its ok to ask for help. It’s a collaborative effort, sometimes you need more opinions than just your own to make something really work.

 

What can people expect to hear from you for the rest of 2020?

Flynn: My first EP, coming later this year. So loads of new music!

 

What is your FAULT?  

I’ve got too many! I’m pretty impatient though and I’m working on that.
