Power-pop has a new ambassador and her name is Josefine. The Swedish-born, Los Angeles-based artist has a music pedigree from Rytmus Music High School, whose alumni include Robyn, Tove Lo, and Icona Pop. Josefine’s latest single “Let It Go” is a testament to her pop sensibilities and is an irresistible banger. Produced by Martin René (Meghan Trainor, H.E.R, Snoop Dogg, and Madcon), “Let It Go” is about moving on and not getting caught up in the little things.
We asked Josefine to put together a playlist of songs that inspire her and it’s no surprise that rising icons like Harry Styles and Maggie Rogers made the list. Check out all her picks below.
Harry Styles – Watermelon
His incredible voice in combination with the underline meaning is just brilliant. Also the vibe that the songs has is such a banger. Clearly a summer hit for me.
Maggie Rogers – Light On
Maggie’s voice captures me completely right from the first second. The lyric also tells a story and I am all about good storytelling.
Ásgeir – King and Cross
This song has been on all of my playlists for the last couple of years. I keep coming back to it. I love the organic feel and the fact that he is amazing live as well just adds to it.
Leslie Odom Jr. & Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton – Wait For It
I have a secret LOVE for musicals and this song hits the right spot. Leslie Odom Jr’s voice is incredible and I can listen to this on repeat along with all of the other songs from the musical. If you haven’t seen it you should, or at least listen to music!
Sigur Rós – Hoppípolla
This captures me in a euphoric state and transport me into a different state of mind. I LOVE this song and always have.
HAEVN – City Lights
The anticipation after the single piano note from start into the first verse catches my attention and then when the pre chorus comes in, I am fully in. His voice is something I have never heard before. Big fan.
NF – Let You Down
I had to have at least on NF song on this list. This is the kind of rap that gets me engaged and I wish that I could rap. He tells the dark stories that singers most of the time are scared about telling. It’s raw and honest. Just how I love it.
Nathan Angelo – Forgetting You
When I moved to the US back in 2012, I found this song and it was the one song that I would always play when I felt lonely. Ever since then I have listened back to when I need to remind myself of my journey. His soulful voice is warm and soft. I love to dive into old memories through music.
Miguel – Banana Clip
Miguel is a huge inspiration to me. Even if we do very different genres I love his playfulness with words, sounds and melodies. I learn from geniuses like him. This song makes my whole body sway to beat.
M83 – Midnight City
This my friends is the best ever workout song. There are plenty of awesome remixes online, which are great too, but this original song is PERFECTION!
