FAULT MAGAZINE REVIEWS Daniel W Fletcher LFWM AW/17
AW17 is Daniel W Fletchers first collection to be shown at LFWM. A Central Saint Martins disciple of 2015, his previous collections are now sold internationally, gaining worldwide coverage. This season his models stood as a serious nod to the young peoples voices needing to be heard among current cultural shifts. Riddled with political statements and with a dark aesthetic to match, this collection saw the creation of 70’s inspired uniforms to unite today’s youth.
With a colour palette of light and dark neutrals, leather patchwork trousers and jackets in blacks and rusts were symbolic of the broken trust within our society. To be labelled as casually luxurious menswear, the collection was tailored with volume, featuring suits rimmed with sportswear stripes. Thick sheering vests and traditional cream check sweaters offered a sense of nostalgia and the continual statement of exposed zippers offered a tough yet stylist armour. Smart navy and grey outerwear pieces were covered with safety pinned squares of brown leather with the sustainability to match the undercurrent semantics of the collection. These coats were fastened with D-rings and worn with suede caps in blocks of rich colour and hardened with leather, provoking a helmet like quality. A collaborating with Camper saw the models in chucky brogues to complete a look that altogether visualised a tonal and thought provoking collection that gives the brand its understated identity.
