NYFW Feb ’14: DAY 1 – Tadashi Shoji AW14
For his Fall 2014 collection Tadashi Shoji presented a selection of decadent princess worthy wear for any decade. This seasons selection offered a union of antiquity and modernity. The initial exits offered a more traditional silhouette with twenty-first century treatments, Victorian styled gowns with gathered collars and sleeves were made of micro laser cut suede, offering a translucent lace look. On the other side of the style spectrum was a range of minimal and effortless gowns, long sleeved t-shirt shaped dresses with the cleanest of lines. A highlight was a boxy 2 piece ensemble that allowed the scattered diamantes to shimmer, creating quite a potent balance of drama and structure. Moorish architecture was found through out in details but highlighted in the elegant final selections of gowns constructed of velvet panels that framed tight to the bodice in the shape of mosques and released into a cascading chiffon trail.
