FAULT Featured: DELS
By: Tommy D Bridge
Kieren Dickens, a young graphic designer turned MC from Ipswich, is the real name of Big Dada’s latest rising star DELS who is being propelled to the forefront of British music.
The artist has been described as “Unmissable” by NME and “the one to watch” by BBC Introducing. This support and acclaim began with John Peel who first played DELS music and since then he has been credited with redefining the world of rap music in the UK. Will Ashton from Big Dada records believes that it is not only DELS ability to push “what he can say with words as hard as he can” but also his adventurous attitude towards music and creating his own artwork and videos – which furnishes him with every chance of great success.
His debut single from his debut album, entitled ‘Shapeshift’, is due for release on the 23rd August 2010 and is an indication of a promising future for this fledgling artist. It is the result of a collaboration with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard; and it is the combination of Goddard’s “ultra-squelchy, off-kilter electronic madness” and DELS’ clear voice and witty lyrics and punch lines which makes DELS music truly accessible.
The video is also the result of a collaboration, with Us Design Studios, which has been described as one of the best promos ever seen.
