The Reinvention
I almost felt excited at the return of the pencil skirt, 3 years ago it was my style staple for the office, although admittedly it was only available in black! So as the skirt returned to the catwalk at the beginning of the year, I was thrilled to see the extent designers had gone to to reinvent the classic staple piece.
Jonathan Saunders colour blocked his skirt with plum horizontal lines whilst H. Berman startled us with his tangerine version. David Koma and French Connection grabbed our attention with their polka dot prints, on the other hand Bally and Maison Martin Margiela re-invented the classic design with a contemporary twist of leather. Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney inspired all with their textured and latex designs, and Emilio Pucci wowed us with high contrast graphic print.
If women ever had an issue with finding work wear with personality, I think their woes may have just been eradicated.
