FAULT: How has 2011 been for you so far?

Awesome! We kicked it off supporting ‘The Understatement’ on the ‘Call + Response Summer Tour’.  The first of it’s kind in the world I’ve been told.  Since then we’ve released new music online and are constantly working on new tunes.

FAULT: How did you begin your musical career?

In high school I was in a lot of concert bands and choirs.  I became more involved with rock music when my sister started playing the bass guitar and listening to punk music.  Musically speaking it really started with the  early jam sessions we used to have; playing punk and writing songs about goldfish and stuff.

FAULT: What never fails to inspire?

The doco ‘Call + Response’, it’s what was toured early this year.  I’ve seen it like 20 times and I never get sick of it.  It outlines the realities of modern day slavery and just how massive it really it.  It features music from from artists like Matisyahu, Imogen Heap and Switchfoot.

FAULT: What has been the source of inspiration for your latest work?

Girls.  Bitches be crazy.  That’s all I’m saying.

 

FAULT: Do you write from personal experiences?

More than people might think, as I a lot of my songs tell someone else’s story.Lyrically, I try to marry something I have gone through with a story I want to tell. That way it’s real for me and it has an element of depth, for those who might like that sort of stuff.

FAULT: What is the track No More Heroes about?

No More Heroes is about having someone you have always looked up to let you down and then taking things into your own hands after waiting so long for someone else to do it.

FAULT: What are you currently working on?

I have a few projects in the works that I’m trying to get off the ground. Once I find the right people things should move pretty quickly.  I’m also in a Choir again, which is awesome!  We’re heading to Europe in June for a month.  It’s slowing things down on the band front, but totally worth it.

 

 

FAULT: What is the music scene like in Australia at the moment?

I wish I knew. I’m not so big on going out.  I get a lot of Facebook invites to things though. So if they are anything to go by things are good.

FAULT: Are you inspired by your surroundings in New South Wales?

Most definitely! I live in Sydney and it has everything to offer. It’s so multicultural and diverse, I love it so much.

It’s made me who I am and the essence of Sydney comes through my music in a big way.

FAULT: What can fans expect from Mordechai in 2011?

Mor e music  for sure.  Other then that, there are some exciting and unique bands project due for release late this year.  I also hope to take a creative and involved approach of  my advocacy for Mordechai Vanunu (the guy the band is named after) to a new level. However it turns out, it will be fun.

FAULT: Any guilty pleasures?

I sometimes listen to pop music most would consider shameful.   I’ve also clocked almost 100 hours of gameplay on the new Pokemon game.  I consider it a research trip.  Most people travel to India for inspiration, I chose Unova instead.  Long live Lord N!
