PACHACUTI: the UK’S Panama hat specialist

Pronounced pa-cha-cu-tee,the brand is a pioneer in fair trade fashion. After a research trip to Ecuador and having read Anita Roddick’s autobiography, Carry Somers was determined to start her own  business. This aims to redress the inequalities in fashion industry (pachacuti means ‘world upside down’ in the Quechua language) valuing the quality of the work of small-scale producers in the Andean region.

Today, certified by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), the brand appears to be the first company in the world to be able to put ‘Certified Fair Trade’ on all of its products which range from panama hats to leather bags, both for women and men.
