I won’t give up
The dream of this Portuguese band first started to take shape in 2005 when Marco Brantner met Daniel Ramos – a like-minded soul in many ways. The two discovered they had the same ideas and priorities where their music was concerned, that is, to see it as an art form and use it as a way to express their feelings and communicate them to others.
A few people came and went, but it wasn’t until Paulo Baixinho (Musician and producer) came along that they really felt that here was the right person to help them accomplish their aims.
In 2008, Baixinho produced the first album of the band called “What if..?”. By analyzing the songs we can feel the fusion of styles that influence Spleen Poetry. Marco is a rock singer and Daniel is more into the progressive style and as a result the songs are gifted of a very own melodic progressive atmosphere.
As independent musicians they put all their energy into promoting the album by their own means which to date has been done by social network, a few magazines and some radio stations from countries as Portugal, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Brazil. There has been excellent positive feedback worldwide with many requests for live performances in the four corners of the globe.
After the album release they started to perform lots of shows in Portugal and have also been invited to perform in other countries as Ireland, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.
In 2010 they recorded a new single named “I won’t give up” which will be promoted in 2011 by a new tour of shows.
FAULT: What is the creative process of your music?
It varies from one song to another. Probably the most common is starting with some sort of riff or melody that gives us some feeling about the mood that the song could have, and then we start developing the music and lyrics from there. Sometimes the process could start from inspiring moments or a specific lyric.
FAULT: Can you sum up Spleen Poetry’s sound in 3 words?
Melodic, Powerful and Intense
FAULT: How would you rate yourself as artists?
Self-evaluation is never easy but we try to do our best and always become better with what we do. I would rate us as 100% committed and hardworking musicians and I would leave the talent rating to the listeners, lol.
FAULT: What is the best thing about being a musician based in Scotland?
I confess that I’ve not been long in Scotland to have a solid idea about that matter but for now the impression I have is that it is a great place for being a performing artist because it looks like people love to hear live music and there are plenty of great venues for that.
FAULT Are you inspired by music?
Yes we are but we’re also inspired by all forms of art, people, cultures and life itself.
FAULT: What is the track I won’t give up about?
I won’t give up is basically a love song where a person realizes their true feelings for that person they love after loosing him/her and now is struggling for a second chance. However this is a message about life in general. We can all and do make mistakes and we all should have a second chance to learn from them, and once we realize what we really want… we surely should fight for it.
FAULT: Do you write from personal experiences?
Some songs are based around my personal experiences; some are based around other people’s. I like to write some reflective lyrics to make people think about certain matters or just look at them from another perspective.
FAULT: Is there anyone you would love to work with?
Honestly I always look forward to work with people who are really passionate about what they do and who also appreciate our work, whether they are producers, agents, managers or other artists. Of course there are always some well known artist we think we might enjoy working with, being fans of their work, but I rather prefer to share a good experience that I already had with someone I worked with rather than speculating what it would be like with somebody else.

FAULT: What are you currently working on? and what can we expect from you in 2011?
Actually we’re planning and rehearsing the gigs to promote our new single and we’re also looking forward to recording our second album.
