Young Prisms are a San Francisco band who formed in the late 2000s while attending college together. The quintet plays a loud yet melodic brand of retro-shoegaze. Band memebers are Jason Hendardy(guitar and vocals), Jordan Silbert (drums), Matt Allen( guitar and vocals),Stefanie Hodapp (vocals), and Giovanni Betteo (bass and vocals). After building a local following in their hometown, bloggers and small labels began taking notice of the group.
Their first recordings were a joint- release via a cassette with Worldwide Computer God and a CD EP on Weedza Records. Soon after, in late 2009 their label Mexican Summer put out a self-titled 12” single by the band. This in turn led to numerous 7″ singles in 2010 with bands: Small Black , Weekend, and Mathemagic. In 2010 Young Prisms finalized a full studio album deal with their U.S. label Kanine. The album, titled Friends for Now was just released and is definitely worth a listen. The group just wrapped up a successful UK tour with Surferblood & No Joy and are starting a North American tour this month. The Young Prisms are FAULTS’ ones to watch for 2011.
