NYFW 2025 brought some FAULTless Indie Brands
Words: Mix Cacho-Negrete
Some people claim New York Fashion Week is dead. Based on what indie brands put out this week, the future of NYFW is far from dead – instead, it’s wearable and versatile – mixed with a little bit of fun. Here are three indie designers who felt pretty FAULTess to us.

5000
FAULT had the opportunity to speak with Taylor Thompson after viewing his SS26 collection, which was filled with suits – everything from oversized cuts to deconstructed tailoring, and even a skirt suit that felt particularly chic. When we spoke with Thompson, he emphasised the most important takeaway he wants people to have from 5000: it will guarantee you a good suit. This collection proved exactly that. From a variety of colours (not everyone can pull off a sharp suit in orange!) to a deconstructed vest crafted from a suit jacket, sure to be spotted on our favourite street style stars, to the perfectly tailored coat, Thompson has his finger firmly on the pulse of how cool, on-the-go individuals want to dress, while still remaining suited for success.

JASPER
JASPER’s first-ever NYFW showing was a breath of fresh air among the many city-inspired looks I saw this season. The collection carried a nautical motif and felt perfect for the chic world traveller. It was made for the seas without being too on the nose. Navy, stripes, Santorini blue, and even sailor hats were sprinkled throughout the room. Beyond the simpler pieces, which still felt effortlessly chic, the statement designs were absolutely stunning and firmly on theme. The standout dress resembled netting; it was timeless yet edgy, with sheer detailing throughout. I also thought the use of ruffles was a clever nod to what a sailor might wear – if only to their most formal event. JASPER is a designer to watch, and I’m excited to see more.

Allina Liu
Allina Liu’s debut runway show brought whimsy to the everyday girl. Liu’s love of bright colours, romantic silhouettes, and statement florals made me hopeful that cottagecore fashion will make a comeback next spring. Her attention to detail was spectacular, too. The garments featured ribbons, collars, and sashes; small elements that made each piece feel special. The collection seemed perfect for someone who wants to be comfortable on the go while embracing a sense of dreaminess. I feel confident that Liu’s designs will be everywhere next year, and I’m excited for her brightness to radiate across a fashion world that needs a colourful pick-me-up.
