Royal Sugar
Royal Sugar is one of the most interesting bands in the music scene right now, mixing 70s and 80s nostalgia with a touch of modern pop, creating a style reminiscing of great bands such as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Poison.
Garrett Carr (bass/vocals) and Tyler Cohenour (frontman) met during their college days in Florida. As they spent more time together, they discovered a strong connection when it comes to music. However, it wasn’t until 2021 that Royal Sugar was officially born, as a result of the pandemic and the will to make stuff happen, this time for real. They began using TikTok to promote the band and in the blink of an eye, they exploded in popularity. The band officially made their debut with a cover of Harry Styles’ “Medicine,” however their first original song came in the form of the incredible amalgamation of vintage and modern styles contained within the shimmering and specular melodies of “California Nightmare.”
“We were blown away by how many people on TikTok shared the same desire that we did to see this rock resurgence, specifically people who like pop and glam rock,” Tyler explains.
Royal Sugar is now stepping into a pivotal chapter of their careers with the release of ‘Animals‘. With every note, lyric, and verse flowing like pure, undistilled energy, ‘Animals’ perfectly represents the band’s unique style.
‘Animals’ also features a musical video accompanying the track. Both the video and track itself have very similar vibes to the ones found in their live performances: an in-your-face, unapologetic raw power . We are presented with the love story of two souls unbound by social expectations, finding love in each other’s embrace, losing oneself in this intoxicating sensation called love, an insatiable lust for the other person.
“The lyrics came so naturally because that riff embodies a sense of uninhibited freedom. It’s the kind of raw, animalistic energy that exists within all of us, waiting to be unleashed. With “Animals,” we wanted to strip away the pressures of the world and tap into the primal core of love and desire.”
