Merryn Jeann, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Byron Bay Shire in Australia, has just released her debut album, DOG BEACH. The novel record, which Merryn released through her own label Rescue + Return records, offers a unique and captivating glimpse into the world of Merryn Jeann as an emerging artist. With 10 diverse tracks, the album defies genre categorization but draws inspiration from beloved sounds of the 90s and early 2000s.

Produced by the renowned Rob Ellis, who has worked with exceptional talents like PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull, Torres, and Nick Cave, DOG BEACH showcases a magical collaboration between the two. The album’s standout single, ‘THANK GOD FOR ASTROLOGY!’, is a delightful and playful track filled with infectious energy. As Merryn says,

“I like to believe in astrology from time to time. I think it’s mystical and fun. I don’t live my life by it but see why u might and when i feel like it, i do!”

Having lived in Paris for several years, Merryn Jeann recently returned to Australia to study Fine Arts in Melbourne. However, her passion for music drew her back in, and it once again became her primary focus. Through her studies, Merryn discovered the visual arts as a lens to enhance her music-making process and performances. This is evident in her self-directed experimental videos, released under the alias MAAMDAAM,and her captivating live shows.

DOG BEACH marks the beginning of Merryn Jeann’s musical journey, showcasing her magnetic soundscapes and musical wisdom. Drawing influences from artists like Caroline Polachek, Cat Power, and Weyes Blood, Merryn’s sound has evolved and flourished at every stage of her career.
