Reyna Tropical Releases New Single ‘Conocerla’.
Reyna Tropical Conocerla – a Tender Self-Love Anthem from Debut Album “Malegría”
Following the vibrant energy of “Cartagena,” Reyna Tropical unveils a more introspective side with “Conocerla,” the latest single from their upcoming debut album “Malegría.” Described as a “love song for me by me,” “Conocerla” is a deeply personal exploration of self-acceptance and embracing the complexities of identity. The track is a hypnotic journey and while we can’t understand every word – it’s no less touching – the track is an arrow that transcends language barriers right into the listeners heart.
“Malegría,” due out March 29th on Psychic Hotline, promises to bea multifaceted journey navigating themes of duality – bittersweetness, grief and love, death and rebirth. It marks Reyna Tropical’s solo evolution after the passing of longtime collaborator Nectali “Sumohair” Diaz.
Influenced by Congolese, Peruvian, and Colombian rhythms, Reyna Tropical blends traditional styles with the spirit of revolutionary artists like Chavela Vargas. This unique fusion resonates in “Conocerla,” where Reyna’s delicate vocals dance with intricate guitar work and marimbas, creating a space for reflection and acceptance.
“a song dedicated to the multiplicity and multi-faceted experiences that I carry and act from as a queer, norteña woman—rebuking the lifelong narrative of being told ‘que no soy ni de aquí ni de allá.’ It’s a slow, consistent movement that dances towards belonging in the in between, a place of sensuality, acceptance, and creation.”
As Reyna explains, it’s a rejection of the societal pressure to conform, instead finding sensuality, acceptance, and creative power in embracing one’s true self.
This single release follows a captivating TEDx performance by Reyna, further showcasing the artist’s vulnerability and powerful message. With “Malegría,” Reyna Tropical hopes to embark on a brave new chapter, honouring the past while forging a unique path of self-discovery for herself through music.
