Zain Iqbal

You’re back for season two of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, what was the biggest change for you this time around?

To be honest, it was pretty much the same. You do all the groundwork in season one and find your feet, and then it’s just about continuing that work and trying to make the best show you can. I put my all into everything I do, so it was really just building on what we’d already established.

Ravi is quite a layered character. When filming wraps for the day or the season, do you find it easy to step away from him, or does he linger?

It’s quite easy for me to leave the character behind. What I tend to fixate on more is the work itself, thinking I could have done something better or approached a scene differently. But in terms of the character, I leave that at work.

What was the biggest challenge this time around?

That’s a tough one. I think it was maintaining momentum after such a long break between seasons. When you come back, you want to do it justice and keep it feeling fresh rather than letting it become stale.

With the success of season one and a growing fanbase, did you feel any added pressure going into season two?

Not really. I just focus on doing my job. People will always have something to say, whether it’s positive or negative, so as long as I’ve done the work and given it my best, that’s all I can control.

Are there particular types of roles or stories you’re drawn to?

I want to show range. I don’t feel like I’ve fully done that yet.

For me, it’s about a good director, a strong script, and a character I can really get my teeth into. Budget doesn’t matter — I’m just interested in the craft.

What is your FAULT?

I’m very critical of myself, and I overthink a lot. I probably need to relax more. You can’t reach perfection in acting. It’s the imperfections that make it interesting and real.
