Drucker takes on post-breakup vulnerability in new single ‘Tigers’

Montreal-based singer-songwriter Drucker (aka Peter Drucker) follows up his latest single ‘Get Out of My Bones’ with ‘Tigers’, a slow, restrained track that digs into what comes after heartbreak. Instead of replaying the breakup itself, the song lingers in the uneasy calm that follows, when you’re back out in the world but still a little off-balance.

Built around a steady pulse and hushed vocals, ‘Tigers’ keeps its tension low to the ground. Drucker sounds both guarded and searching, especially when he sings, “I’d go toe to toe with any animal who thinks they know you.” It’s a line that captures the mix of pride and vulnerability that runs through the rest of the song, which culminates in an impassioned plea:

“If you wanted more love
Won’t you just say
Quit sending me signals
That we both barely see
You’re like a Tennessee Williams’ play
In that half the time I barely understand what the both of you mean”

Drucker is steadily building an impressive catalogue of tracks which are consistently and simultaneously soothing yet plaintive, gentle yet dynamic, and relaxed yet earnest. With deliberate care and craftsmanship, it feels a little like Drucker is flying in the fact of the perceived wisdom of this generation’s instant gratification approach to releasing music: there’s no breakout hit being pushed on millions of TikTok videos. Drucker takes a more traditional approach to songwriting and releasing music. He’s an artist with something to say that can’t necessarily be translated into a quick hit on social media.

Despite that – or, perhaps, because of it – Drucker’s audience has been growing quickly, with radio play, Spotify playlist support, and a headline London show earlier this week. ‘Tigers’ is the latest step in that process. It’s understated but emotionally direct, the kind of song that rewards close listening rather than chasing a big hook.
