HighSchool Jacob released his latest track, ‘Madeline’, on Valentine’s Day 2025. The LA-based singer-songwriter, whose work includes film composition for indie hit CODA, has a distinctive and unconventional sound reminiscent of the like of Porches, Still Woozy, The Weeknd, and Pharrell Williams.

I’ve always been focused on making music that’s accessible and emotionally engaging. I always try to write from multiple perspectives and analyze who the messengers actually are, from a songwriting point of view.”

This thoughtful approach to music gives his work a unique depth while remaining irresistibly catchy.

Last year, HighSchool Jacob dropped HSJ 2020, a collection of songs with a unique twist. What made it stand out was Jacob’s choice to include alternative 8-bit versions of each track. These retro-inspired renditions, straight out of the golden age of the NES, turned the project into a must-have for video game enthusiasts and retro music lovers alike.

Now, Jacob is back with another standout release. ‘Madeline’ wastes no time pulling you in, opening with an irresistible beat before seamlessly blending into his signature, mesmerizing vocals. From start to finish, the track commands attention, proving once again Jacob’s knack for crafting unforgettable music. The track is a dazzling fusion of disco and electro-pop, evoking the spirit of the Bee Gees while feeling fresh and modern like something The Weeknd might produce. With its groovy bass line, dance-inducing beat, and an overall uplifting vibe, ‘Madeline’ is a summer anthem that’s dropped in the middle of February. It’s a track to get you moving and put a smile on your face.

Jacob himself sheds light on the song’s inspiration: “I wrote this song when I was overcome by the feeling you get when you like someone, and they don’t like you back, and you ignore everything and anything that indicates they don’t like you even though it’s probably for the best that they don’t like you, anyways, because they probably suck but also stop assuming that every cute girl who is nice to you has to like you because maybe they’re just nice, and you’re just being entitled.”

The chorus for ‘Madeline‘ is incredibly catchy, showcasing the canny knack HighSchool Jacob has for creating an earworm. With more releases coming soon, we’re looking forward to whatever he comes up with next.
