Quatre Vin: Democratising Wine – An Evening with Meliá White House Supper Club Review
Quatre Vin x Meliá White House
An evening of exquisite food, organic wines, and genuine hospitality in the heart of London
Meliá White House is quite the hotel. We visited the iconic 1930s Grade II listed building in the heart of London that recently underwent a £40 million transformation hotel to attend the launch of the Meliá White House Supper Club Series. Hosted by the charismatic Oliver Proudlock and Elliot Awin, co-founders of the organic wine brand Quatre Vin, the event promised to blend sustainability, style, and soulful living so we went down to check it out.
The Arado Restaurant, our venue for the night, impressed us with its bright and modern decor. As we entered to delectable canopies and a glass of wine, the atmosphere was both sophisticated and welcoming, a testament to the organisers’ efforts to remove the often intimidating air of the wine industry.
Oliver Proudlock, accompanied by his co-founder Elliot Awin, began the evening with a warm introduction. Their passion for Quatre Vin was palpable, and it was refreshing to witness founders who genuinely cared about their craft. Proudlock’s enthusiasm was infectious as he shared stories of the brand’s origins and their commitment to organic, sustainably produced wines. It’s clear that Quatre Vin isn’t just a business venture for them; it’s a labour of love. In an age where every notable personality is trying to sell you something, it was an inspiring revelation to hear them speak with such authentic passion about a product into which they had clearly poured so much of themselves. (Last pun of the article I promise…)
The evening’s culinary journey commenced with a selection of delectable canapés, setting the tone for the three-course meal ahead. Each dish was paired with wines from the Quatre Vin range. The food, prepared by the talented chefs at Arado, showcased the best of local and independent producers with a seasonal theme. The starters were served as a variety of sharing plates, encouraging a communal dining experience as one would expect from a supper club.
For my main course, I opted for the slow-cooked beef short ribs, served with wild mushrooms, tender-stem broccoli, carrot puree, potato fondant, and truffle jus. The beef was tender, and the earthy flavours of the wild mushrooms and truffle jus paired perfectly with Quatre Vin’s Côtes de Provence Rouge. The attention to detail in both the food and wine pairing was evident, and it was hard to believe that the entire experience was available for just £50 per person. The affordability of the tickets was a pleasant surprise, especially considering the high quality of the food and wine on offer.
Dessert was a decadent affair. I chose the chocolate and hazelnut delice, complemented by raspberry coulis, cinnamon crumble, and fresh berries. The rich, velvety chocolate combined with the tartness of the raspberry coulis and the crunch of the cinnamon crumble created a symphony of flavors washed down with a lovely glass of Quatre Vin’s QV Blanc 2022.
As we finished up the meal we sang our hosts praises for how the event managed to balance luxury with accessibility. It was a rare feat to make an evening feel both exclusive and inclusive, yet the Meliá White House and Quatre Vin had achieved just that. After dinner conversations flowed as freely as the wine, with guests exchanging notes on their favourite pairings and the Supper Club felt less like a formal event and more like an intimate gathering of friends, united by a shared appreciation for good food and great wine.
The Meliá White House Supper Club had not only provided an evening of exquisite dining and exceptional wines but had also succeeded in creating a welcoming space for all. It was a celebration of craftsmanship from the hardworking chefs to the achievements Quatre Vin have made not only in creating their brand but also making sure it’s a wine that caters to all knowledge bases. Having the founders there to answer our questions no matter how novice was truly welcomed and we’re excited to watch the brand grow from here.
For anyone with a passion for wine, whether a seasoned aficionado or a curious newcomer, this event is not to be missed. The combination of affordable tickets, high-quality food, and the genuine warmth of the hosts makes it a truly unique experience. As we left the beautiful surroundings of the Meliá White House, we were already looking forward to the next instalment in the Supper Club Series, confident that it would deliver the same FAULTLess blend of elegance and approachability that made this evening so memorable.
