Lauren Ruth Ward has an in-your-face approach which represents the old-school, rebellious nature of rock. The Baltimore native is kicking up a storm in the music world with her gritty punk aesthetic and retro, guitar-led sound. Her lyrics resonate with a powerful intimacy which simultaneously conveys both vulnerability and strength.

LRW’s latest EP release, ‘Self Electric‘, drops as she continues her tour across the UK and Europe. Five new tracks offer a fresh approach to Lauren’s songwriting. The opening track, ‘Self Love‘, is a pulsating number, with LRW’s signature raspy, seductive voice the star of the show. Produced by David Davis and written by both Ward and Davis, ‘Self Love’ is the result of a journey of self-care using three important steps: journaling, therapy, and a lot of mind-expanding audiobooks. Next up is a remix of ‘Self Love’ by renowned remixer/DJ COM3T. Both artists lean on their respective styles and strengths to craft an explosive tune to match the tone of the EP.

Heaven Electric‘ is next on the menu. An acid-fueled trip in which LRW’s vocals soar above the atmospheric production, adding an extra layer of emotion to the track. ‘Heaven Electric’ captures the essence of LRW’s signature sound and style. If you’re more into visuals, worry not, since we’re being graced with a video piece alongside the song. Matching the surreal tones with equally eccentric visuals, the video is a psychedelic trip that takes you on a quest through LRW’s personal universe, one full of raw emotion and unapologetic melodies.

We continue riding the wave of high rock and roll with ‘This is What I Get‘, a high-octane track full of energetic drums and electrifying guitars. The song’s lyrics evoke the already well-known sense of rebellion and empowerment in her music. Last but not least is the introspective acoustic ballad ‘Babysitter‘: a perfect way to close this glorious exploration into the creative mind of Lauren Ruth Ward.

It was the self-love-to-self-confidence pipeline that led me back into the L.A. dating scene after a career-focused, celibate, spiritual sabbatical. Among the summer lovers, I observed the same high pendulum swings from codependency to hyper-independence that I had worked so hard to rewire in myself. I found myself having an allergic reaction to those who always need someone to call them ‘baby.’ I also wish them their self-love and freedom. Choosing myself—loneliness and all—over glimmers of ‘what if’ love, is my self-love story.”
