Elliphant

We caught up with Elliphant to delve into the inner world of the artist known for her electrifying music and unapologetic creativity. Her latest release, ‘THERAPY’ and the upcoming album ‘TROLL,’ offer a glimpse into her personal experiences and the profound impact of motherhood on her artistry. We caught up with Elliphant to discuss her musical journey, upcoming project and of course, her FAULTs.

Could you tell us more about the inspiration and message behind THERAPY?

The outburst of therapy was just like therapy.. I had been away from the studio for a long time and decided to have a experimental week with my good friend and producer WDL to try push some songs out but with no expectations …..just flow… we had a lot of fun but it was also very emotional cos I turned to myself for the first time in a while that week.  When you’re a mom, a partner and a sister and have a home to clean and cook like 100 times a day it’s easy to forget how important it is to also feed your inner self. I have a rich inner life that is dysfunctional in relation to my physical self at times.. I feel frustrated, and lonely.. and angry. It builds up with time til one day when it blows out creatively and becomes a song like this!
And then I am back filling up the void with feelings till I explode in creativity again and again. I am so grateful that I have a channel for my inner self to get some air through sometimes.. I didn’t think so much when I made it, but it felt good. It felt real.

“THERAPY” is intensely personal lyrics. How has your journey towards better mental health influenced your music, and what made you decide to express these personal experiences in your music?

I think it’s only when u are personal and vulnerable can you really connect with others in the way I strive to connect to people. I want to bring up sensitive subjects that they can relate to. I want them to recognize them self in me and by doing that assure them they are not alone feeling this things.

Is it a theme we’ll see explored further in your upcoming album TROLL?
Yes…. It’s all about our mental health or our inner life and the reality of our soul, all this unique billions of perspectives and experiences. The hunger of the spirit. My inspiration is the struggle it is to be a human in this fantasy world that is still looking for its nature. Her home. Who are we, what the hell is goin on. I don’t want to say so much . I just want to ask a lot of hard questions.

Your upcoming album, “TROLL,” is said to be a raw and uncompromising blend of electronic punk, grime, and hip-hop. How did your recent motherhood influence the creation of this album, and in what ways is that influence reflected in the music?

Since I became a mother my priority’s have changed. I need to stay healthy and clear headed for my kid. I need to be present. So my creativity is blooming in daylight being in the studio working hours mostly for example. That’s new to me, I used to be all night in the studio just crashing the place now am more going in ,let it out , go kindergarten , home and make macaroni… I had to learn how to control my troll cos I could never kill her. I love her (my crazy side) but she needed some routine and structure to last…

You’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with several big names in the music industry – would you say your creative process changes when working on a project as personal as your upcoming album?

Everything changes all the time. I always said that creativity is like sex to me, it’s something you never really learn . If you say know it all you are most definitely shit at it. To be good at writing songs you need to stay humble and never stop learning and tapping in to the present situation and the people in it. Every time I go in to the studio I am overwhelmed by how real it gets and that I have no idea what am doing.

What is the biggest accomplishment of Elliphant in her 10-year career in the music industry and how does she maintain her authenticity and clear message despite various challenges?

The biggest accomplishment of Elliphant is that I know from looking back at this crazy 10 years in this industry and from tapping in to my amazing Blisseh phants (fans) that I always got the message across.., even if I lost my self many times and ended up in rooms where people like me have never been, I even made music with super pop producers and still kept the message clear. In every song I am honest.

When you look back on your musical journey, what’s been the most challenging hurdle to overcome?

There’s been a lot of sh!t if am gonna be honest. The music industry can be a very confusing and scary place especially when you don’t have eny experience or anyone from your family by your side…. But when my producer Tommy Tysper, who was my rock in this Elliphant circus,  took he’s life in Los Angeles I was sure I wouldn’t and couldn’t make music again but here we are .. making more tunes…. With Tommy in my heart.

What is your FAULT?

A feeling of being misunderstood.
