Swedish outfit Spunsugar announce new album ‘A Hole Forever’
After the enormous response to their highly-praised 2020 debut LP ‘Drive-Through Chapel’ and subsequent follow-up EP ‘Things That I Confuse’ the following year, Swedish shoegaze outfit Spunsugar are back once again to announce the details behind their next studio album A Hole Forever.
Fresh off the back of their roaring comeback single ‘Skin Unwell’ earlier this year, their sophomore collection sees them return to the raw and woozy 90s-inspired blend of electronic, post-punk and pop influences they are known for. Previewed by the new lead offering ‘It Never Gave Me Anything’, this new outing provides another broad and gritty addition to their ever-growing repertoire, and highlights some of the more atmospheric textures we can expect to hear on this new release.
Adding about ‘It Never Gave Me Anything’, they said, “‘It Never Gave Me Anything’ describes a relationship between a person and an unwanted side of themselves. This side is so unlike how they want to be that they treat them as a separate entity, maybe even a person. It has always been there, ruining moments, talking to them and making sure that they never forget that it is present. A seemingly never ending list of things this ‘it’ is responsible for is recited over a pulsating beat and bass riff that is both ominous and groovy at the same time. This paired with a wall of distorted guitars that show up in the bridges and choruses, creates a song that makes you question what mood the song leaves you with. As is typical of the band, the song plays with what emotion, as well as which genre, it evokes.”
Spunsugar’s single edit of ‘It Never Gave Me Anything’ is set to be released on 18th August 2023 in anticipation of their album ‘A Hole Forever,’ dropping on 17th November 2023.
