Celebrate UK Black Female Photographers at FUJIFILM House of Photography
The FUJIFILM House of Photography in London is set to host a photography exhibition titled ‘Living the Dream’ in partnership with UK Black Female Photographers (UKBFGOG). The exhibition, which runs from 9 March to 7 May, will feature works by 51 artists covering a variety of genres and subjects, including identity, heritage and conceptual photography. It will celebrate culture, creativity and womanhood through the lens of black female photographers. The artists hope to inspire future generations and pay tribute to inspirational women from the past and present. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to engage with the artists’ images and, in the process, to imagine their own dreams.
The exhibition is supported by several archival pieces on loan from the McKenzie Heritage Collection, highlighting inextricable connections between the past and present and challenging socially conditioned biases. Through displaying life in Britain today alongside black life in Britain in the past, the exhibition aims to increase representation and diversity in photography.
Throughout the exhibition, a variety of events will be held offering advice and tips on photography and the wider industry. These events include a workshop and portfolio review with Cultura Creative, a dream big vision board event with UKBFTOG, and a fashion and beauty photography masterclass with Jade Keshia Gordon.
Theo Georghiades, general manager at FUJIFILM UK, said: “much of the photography we see doesn’t actually reflect the diversity of our communities. We are proud to partner with UK Black Female Photographers on the Living the Dream exhibition to continue our support of creative communities in helping increase representation and diversity in photography”.
The exhibition and events provide a vital platform for female role models from the Global Majority to share their images with the world, to help imagine specific futures, and to encourage photographers to create and sell images in the global stock licensing imagery. The exhibition also offers a safe space for people to gain a clearer direction into achieving their dreams.
