JACQUEX Hey!
JAVON Hey! I’m sorry, I’m super sweaty, I just finished working out.

JACQUEX Oh nice, how was your workout?
JAVON It was good, a lot today, cardio and boxing day. Some days I just do boxing, other days I strictly focus on cardio, and some days I even combine the both. Today was more focused on boxing, but I definitely did some cardio. I train about five to six days a week. And cardio days alone can be pretty heavy. I definitely prefer just the boxing days.

JACQUEX Where are you located/from?
JAVON I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. And I’m in Atlanta right now. Georgia is home for me, my whole life, I love it out here.

JACQUEX How are you feeling today?
JAVON I’m feeling great. No complaints today.

JACQUEX Congrats on the success of Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy! What was it like joining the cast of such a popular show?
JAVON Thank you so much! It was so cool being on set and seeing first hand this incredible show come to life.  Everyone in the cast was really fun to work with.  I really connected with David Castañeda and we would box on the weekends.  He even took me to a Blue Jays game. 

JACQUEX Tell us about your character ‘Stan’?
JAVON Stan is a bit of a prankster. His biggest prank is pulled on Diego  with a little help from Lila. He’s a really sweet kid but maybe a bit misunderstood. He can come across as a trouble maker but he has a good heart.  What starts out as a prank turns into a really great family bond. 

JACQUEX Later this year, you’ll be starring alongside Sylvester Stallone in SAMARITAN. How did it feel working with such a film and sporting legend?
JAVON Working with Sylvester Stallone was a lot of fun. I grew up watching Rocky and we talked about that and boxing non-stop. In between takes we’d debate which boxer is the best and who we thought would win in a fight.  Boxing is my passion and Mr. Sly is a boxing historian, so we always had plenty to talk about.  When we weren’t talking boxing we were talking about our favorite dog breeds. 

JACQUEX Did Sly give you any advice on working in this business?
JAVON  Sly taught me to feel comfortable with improv. He treated me like a professional and not just a kid. Our chemistry was great from day one and I really think that’s what makes this film so great. 

JACQUEX Tell us a little more about the film and your character ‘Sam’?
JAVON  Sam is raised by a single mother in a rough environment. He’s torn between choosing between good and bad. He feels like he needs to take care of his mom even though he’s just a kid. Samaritan is so much more to him than just a super hero but it brings back happy memories of a time when his dad was around.  His dad believed that Samaritan was still alive and Sam makes it his mission to find out. 

JACQUEX As an actual young person, what’s your relation to Ashtray in Euphoria?
JAVON He’s a hard worker, of course he sells drugs and has done a lot of crazy things. I can take that away for myself, I’m a hard worker. He’s super loyal, very very loyal. That’s a big trait in Ashtray and me. He’s a businessman, he wants to get shit done, and likes to stay super productive at all times.

JACQUEX The face expressions are quite a skill, where do these originate from?
JAVON I understood that Ashtray wouldn’t have as many talking lines, honestly, that doesn’t relate to him. He’s not one to talk, he’s one to do. I knew if there was one way to standout, that would be by having a facial expression. And really hone in on that. A big inspiration for me, in that world, is Robert De Niro. His facial expressions are absolutely phenomenal.

JACQUEX Why are you a badass?
JAVON Well thank you, I really just try to put my personality out there. I like to show things that I absolutely love. A big part of me is fashion, I absolutely love fashion. I’ve been in the boxing world for a very, very long time. I’ve always had big dreams and I know that I can achieve those by working as hard as I possibly can. I want to thrive in absolutely every aspect of my life. When it comes to Ashtray, I think he’s a badass because he is living in a grown up world. A world that kids don’t really see.

JACQUEX What crosses your mind when boxing, what do you enjoy about this sport? 
JAVON There are so many things that I love about boxing, what I enjoy about boxing is what it takes to become a high level boxer. There’s no getting to the highest level easily, it takes a lot of time. I believe it is one of the harder sports, it challenges me every single day when I do it. I love being in the ring, I love fighting, everything about boxing I love.

JACQUEX Do you think it is important to be a multitasker today?
JAVON I don’t think it’s important to be a multitasker. I just think it’s important to do what you love, I don’t want anyone to set limitations on people. Like, I didn’t want anybody to set limitations on me. When people said I couldn’t do multiple things, okay I bet, I know that I can. I want to be great at acting and boxing, really, I know that I can achieve big things at both. I don’t think it’s about setting limitations. If you don’t think multitasking is for you, and you want to set your skill set to one thing in particular, then go ahead. That’s amazing, succeed at that, go as far as you can.

JACQUEX Is there something that tests your patience?
JAVON Sometimes when my siblings come into my room just to mess with me for absolutely no reason. That can definitely test my patience a little bit. But also being rushed in a scene, when I’m acting, I like to have some time to get in the moment.

JACQUEX What brings you peace of mind?
JAVON Being with my family just brings me peace of mind. There’s nothing else that I want. I just love being with my family at all times. It’s dope, we have a great bond, and I’m blessed that I have them. Dude. We spend time with each other every single day, we are always spending time with each other. Me and my siblings are super close, we play “wolf of all” together all the time: me, my baby brother, my twin, and even my sister sometimes. We go to the lake sometimes during the summer. During the fall we’ll go to the mountains and stay in cabins, fun things like that.

JACQUEX Who do you want to present to the world?
JAVON That it’s okay to have flaws, we all have them. That’s completely normal. If you mess up some things in life you can bounce back. And achieve bigger goals. I know it’s hard to, but try to present your best self, always. Everyone goes through their ups and downs, being your best self is not always about being perfect. It is just about really trying in every aspect of your life.

JACQUEX Have you encountered people that you never thought you would meet?
JAVON Not really, I don’t know. One person who I did want to meet, though, the only person I really wanted to meet is Muhammad Ali. At the end of the day we are all people. And when I’m on set, I’m working, getting shit done.

JACQUEX What’s your favorite city?
JAVON I love San Diego, Chicago was cool too. I don’t love traveling too much. I did when I was younger, I’m still young, but you know what I mean. I like it a little bit. 

JACQUEX What’s your favorite dish?
JAVON I love burritos and tacos, for sure. No specific restaurant, anything that’s good, you know.

JACQUEX Is there something you want to create/do but haven’t yet?
JAVON I really want to be a superhero or even a supervillain. That would be really cool. I would love to play Robin. And I would love to be a world champion at boxing, that’s really my goal. It’s definitely number one for me, to go professional and succeed in the boxing world.

JACQUEX Do you trust your instincts or rational mind?
JAVON I’m a little bit indecisive. I think it’s because I like to make my mind up quickly. But I like to sit on things for a bit. When you make up your mind so quickly; it’s the indecisiveness talking. And that isn’t what you really want, or what you’re really speaking from.

JACQUEX What’s your FAULT?
JAVON I’m definitely a perfectionist, it’s something that can be good, but can be bad. Because you want perfect absolutely everything that you do in life. And you know that you can’t do that. Kind of what I mentioned earlier, it isn’t about always being perfect. I’m perfectly imperfect, as a perfectionist, it can get the best of me at times.
