It’s only been one day since Yuju released her brand new single ‘Play’ and in that time she has already garnered over one million views and it’s not hard to see why. While Yuju’s solo debut has been highly anticipated for months now, she manages to blow all expectations out of the water with her hypnotic powerhouse vocal.
We caught up with Yuju to discuss her new music, musical journey and of course, her FAULTs.
What’s been the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since pursuing your solo career?
There are more things that I must solve alone, and I can’t rely on anyone. However, thanks to the help and support of the company employees at Konnect, I am having a lot of fun doing it.
What would you say was the most personal song on the upcoming album and why?
It’s Blue Nostalgia. As soon as I heard the demo for the first time, I wanted to write the lyrics. Word by word, I wrote these lyrics with my heart.
When you look back on your artistic journey, what would you say has been the hardest hurdle you’ve had to overcome?
I think just the physical conditioning aspect and controlling my emotions. Since I am a person and not a machine, it was not always easy.
The album concludes with Blue Nostalgia, does it ever feel uncomfortable to show vulnerability through such a stripped backtrack?
I don’t think it’s uncomfortable but it’s a song that requires a lot of concentration. I had to focus on the vocal performance as well as the emotion and message I wanted to get across to the listeners.
If you could go back to the start of your career and leave yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell myself, “Let’s stay calm, remain honest with yourself and do well”
Do you ever feel pressure to live up to the high expectations so many have for your debut solo album?
It would be a lie if I said that there’s no pressure, but I just try to enjoy it the best I can and remember how blessed I am to be in this position, with my fans, and people that care about me.
What’s something no journalist has ever asked you but is something you’d like to say/ discuss?
I would love it if they asked what I shopped for recently. Since you asked, I went shopping for Outerwear like new puff coats and jackets.
What is the hardest hurdle you’ve had to overcome as an artist?
Being able to control my heart and emotions.
What are you most looking forward to in 2022?
Greeting my fans after such a long time with REC. and creating new memories with them.
What is your FAULT?
Having no sense of direction!
