Lil Nas X’s New Track ‘Holiday’ is more than just a X-mas hit
Lil Nas X’s New Track ‘Holiday’ is more than just a X-mas hit, it’s a defiant proclamation to haters who won’t accept his success.
Halloween is over which can only mean one thing – Christmas themed commercials, decorations, food and of course – music. Today Lil Nas X makes his highly awaited return with his new single “HOLIDAY”.
HOLIDAY is the first new single from his upcoming album, an album which fans have been beaming with excitement to hear for quite some time.
Earlier this week, Lil Nas X released a short teaser for the song on Twitter which, much like most of his tweets, took the world by storm. While many have labelled him as an overnight success or one-hit-wonder (despite his three hits), the lyrics “Nobody tried to let me in, nobody open doors, I kicked the motherfuckers down they didn’t have a choice” hint at the unseen challenges he faced breaking into a toxic industry.
When Lil Nas X first came out to the public in 2019, while his decision was met with praise and encouragement by some, many male hip-hop artists criticised the move. However, for a generation of young, black LGBTQ+ hip-hop lovers seeing him continue to blossom in the world of fashion and music his continued contribution to fashion and music is a ray of light in an overwise dimly lit industry.
The music video is for HOLIDAY is co-directed with Gibson Hazard. Like everything, we’ve come to expect from the star. Flashing light, over-the-top CGI, killer costume design all rolled into a fun narrative.
It must also be said, that for all the criticism Lil Nas X has received from other male rappers within the industry, non of the naysayers have managed to match his level of creativity this year. As we draw closer to the release of Lil Nas X’s upcoming debut album, we’re excited to see what else he has in store for us.
