Weekly Playlist: Girl Wilde

Angst-pop powerhouse Girl Wilde has revealed her debut EP, “Probably Crying,” a five-track journey through the good, bad, and ugly of the human experience. Through her lyrics, Girl Wilde approaches the oft-taboo topics of depression, anxiety, and female sex positivity with a radiant confidence. Her musicality is equally as rebellious, blurring genre boundaries with bombastic punk-inspired riffs, electro-pop melodies, and 90s indie-rock nostalgia.

“Probably Crying” sees Girl Wilde emerging through a therapeutic journey of self-discovery, which she explains in the following statement: “For many years I felt like my voice had been stifled and I can proudly say that this EP is my first step towards freedom. I am excited to finally speak my truth and unapologetically be myself.”

We asked Girl Wilde to put together a playlist of songs that inspired her new EP. Listen in below and cue the tears!

Ruston Kelly – Asshole

I’m not sure why this song makes me cry so much, but it just does. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m an asshole sometimes and I’m facing my own personality flaws? Maybe it’s because I know a few people who fit the description. Maybe it’s because I love Ruston Kelly and his way with words. Either way, fountains form in my eyeballs every time I hear it.

Johnny Cash – Hurt

It’s Johnny Cash. Need I say more?

Lauv – Sims

I know, it’s not a tear jerker, but it gives me the feels. It brings me back to my early 20’s and that nostalgia just does it for me.

Sasha Sloan – Smiling When I Die

As I get older death becomes more of a reality. I’m not gonna live forever. The people who I love also won’t be here forever. This song is a great reminder to make the most of it while we have it.

Blink 182 – I Really Wish I Hated You

Crying because BLINK 182 IS BACK, BABY!

Alexander 23 – High School

To me, the lyrics of this paint the picture of how I feel about my twenties. It’s a shot of nostalgia to the ears.

Petey – Apple TV Remote

This song is so angsty and I’ve had it on repeat since I first heard it. It makes me feel like I’m 16 riding my bike down the street, angry and not sure why. I have a thing for nostalgia, ok?

JP Saxe – 25 in Barcelona

Maybe it’s his effortlessly beautiful voice? His story telling? I don’t know but I cry every time I hear it.

The Band CAMINO – Haunted

Okay so maybe this one doesn’t make me cry instantly, but I just love The Band CAMINO. Listen to this song and you will too.

Tegan and Sara – The Con

I usually turn this song on when I’m angry crying. It does the soul a LOT of good, or at least it does mine.
