FAULT Issue 21 features the talented award winning musician – Leona Lewis  on the Music Cover! Leona has wowed her way into multiple Brit awards + Grammy nominations and now on our music cover she is back swinging to remind us all why we should be watching her throne!

Ryan Tedder told us how much pressure is put on him when working for Syco. What was working with them like for you?

I started off at Syco nine years ago when it was a very intimate label, and we did amazing things. But then the company blew up and became massive. Then there was pressure. I felt I had to fight a lot. Really, really fight for what I wanted. In that process, there are so many people with different opinions, people you need to wait to get answers from, and that weighs on you, especially when you’re just trying to create something that’s totally you and genuine. It’s a much easier process now. But they make amazing records. I just needed to do it in a different way this time.

Has becoming a pop star affected your perception of yourself?

I try to not let it. I don’t ever look at comments or what people say about me, because there’s some people that are just crazy and say crazy things. My dad always said to me, “don’t believe the hype,” and I never have. It keeps you real, as you’re not feeding into what everyone else is saying.

With each passing record you have included more and more of your own writing. How has that changed making a record for you?

I’ve gotten more and more confident. I’ve always been a songwriter. It’s as natural as singing to me. My writing is a big part of this album, and on my new label, I was able to do the whole thing on my own. It felt so good.

Did you ever feel like you had to succumb to the pressure? Because after ‘Bleeding Love,’ and success in America, and the industry taking notice, and deals being made; I’m sure the pressure was overwhelming at times.

There were times when I felt very overwhelmed. Yeah. I didn’t realise how huge everything would be and how demanding it was. It was crazy. Just crazy. I had to be around the world, everywhere, at the same time. But in those moments I always had my family around and they helped me get myself together.
