FAULT Faves from MBFWB Day 2
Marc Cain
It seems the designers can’t get enough of the 1960s vibes at the moment and Marc Cain AW15 is no exception. Polo necks and mini-skirts met psychedelic prints and multi-coloured fur in what was a very obvious inspiration point but that also covered a wide spectrum. More outlandish styles included red PVC macs and sparkling mini dresses paired with patent go-go boots whilst a pastel yellow fur jacket was as sweet as the macaroon print on the skirt it was styled with. Mods, rockers, boho babes and the newly-emancipated office workers of the era walked comfortably alongside each other on the runway.
Marc Cain is one of Germany’s biggest champions for the country’s fashion industry and whilst the new collection may be referencing a Carnaby Street London look, the brand has stayed true to its ethos of manufacturing part of their work in Germany.
Schacky
A patchwork of suede, leather and fur in rich autumnal colours looked perfect for a crisp country walk at the Schacky presentation. A little boho and a lot cosy glamour, these women know how to wrap up warm without compromising style. Skirts ranged from suede minis to full skirted leather. Short-haired, mottled furs prevented swing coats from being bulky whilst knitted bobble hats with fur pom poms added a cute and girlie vibe into the mix. Black suede cowboy boots and black leather driving gloves finished off the look.
Top quality leathers and fur are designer Claudia Von Schacky’s speciality and she adds a luxurious twist to Berlin’s Fashion Week schedule. From her beginning’s as the creator of the ‘perfect fitting stretch leather trousers’, to this season’s ultra desirable winter warmers, she knows what women want.
Rebekka Ruétz
When we heard Rebekka Ruétz’s AW15 collection was inspired by fairy tales, we were expecting delicate princesses on the catwalk. Instead, these were strutting, chain adorned, leather panel embellished, disarming fairytale creatures, ready for action. Their hair was fashioned into wild, romantic curls and their over-the-top makeup looked like they had just walked off the set of Black Swan.
Loose, androgynous suits were mixed with soft silk dresses with a marble-effect woodland yellow and green digital print. Fine metal chains swung between faux leather shoulder pads and dangled from thick faux leather waist belts adding an edge. Peasant girl styles were seen in oversized slouchy knits paired with billowing full-length skirts and fur sleeves in a wolf grey. The final character in this fable was an ice queen with a spiked headdress and wrapped in an exorbitant fur coat that trailed on the floor behind her.
A cheer went out at the finale as a male model draped in the same fur coat led the models back out on to the catwalk carrying a sign reading ‘fake fur only’.
Whichever fairytale persona Rebekka Ruétz fans choose to adopt next autumn, one thing is for sure, these damsels can save themselves!
Stylight Fashion Influencer Awards
For the second year during Berlin Fashion Week, tech shopping platform Stylight hosted their Fashion Influencer Awards, celebrating the bloggers and celebrities who inspire our wardrobes. It was a truly international affair with bloggers coming from Spain, France, Italy, Holland, Germany and Switzerland. Brit girl and FAULT issue 18 star Zara Martin was nominated in the celebrity style category and New York-based super blogger Bryan Boy sat on the judging panel.
As a hub for tech startups, Berlin provided the perfect host city for such an event, which serves to acknowledge the power of the blogger and how they’ve changed the fashion landscape. They’re stylish, they take great photos, they introduce us to new brands and they’re relatable. These are the names to sit up and take notice of; they have a serious number of Instagram followers and a serious amount of clout to go with it.
