If you thought Dalston was too trendy for its own good, for just one weekend this May, it’s about to get even more so. Celebrating local bands, venues and institutions, Land of Kings looks set to keep North East London going with party vibes that will last until the Olympics.
This is the festival that has it all: film screenings, loft parties, rooftop gigs, cabaret – all spread across the best spaces that Dalston has to offer. From late-night institutions like Alibi, to innovative creative hothouses like the Arcola Theatre as well as brand new venue Birthdays and the obligatory secret locations, Kingsland Road’s finest establishments will all be filled with the brightest and tightest that London has to offer.
Some of our favourites to be performing are NZCA/Lines, whose eponymous album has been on repeat here, surf pop trio Bos Angeles, hair-curtained visual spectacles from Is Tropical, gothic pop from O. Children, jazz-intoned rhyming from Speech Debelle and mild-altering drone electro from Factory Floor. Getting down on the decks will be everyone from Dollop to Kwes (who’ll be joining up with Micachu to create Kwesachu – anyone feel like we’re in a game of Pokemon?!), The Horrors to super label Moshi Moshi.
Advance tickets for Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May are £20 for one day and £30 for two via the Land of Kings website
