ALL IN WHITE: THEN AND NOW
Throw away the LBD’s this summer and get ready for a far more daring take on the monochrome trend: white on white. Prominent during the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion week shows, it appears to have taken inspiration from 70’s style icon Bianca Jagger and her famous YSL white trouser suit. The proliferation of white was showcased on the Spring/Summer runways of top fashion houses such as Givenchy, Chanel and Dior. Designers are using lightweight and sheer fabrics to encourage a more elegant approach to, what may appear, a difficult style to successfully accomplish. With the addition of mixing fabrics, contrasting lengths, tones and layering different textured pieces, the trend instantly transforms into a pure and minimalistic summer look; and it isn’t just for women. The all-white tailoring dominated the menswear collections where designers experimented with satin lapels and headwear; white also prevailed in men’s sportswear. The trend delivered white in various forms; from minimalistic and tailored to ethereal and nymph-like, which leaves us no excuse not to attempt this statement look next summer (and that includes all of you black-on-black lovers, myself included.)
