Powerful Pugh
Heads up, beaks up, there’s a new show in town. Gone are the red lollipops of Meadham Kirchhoff and in are the sci-fi beings of Gareth Pugh. Bounded, boned and beautiful.
The show was a visionary experience, teasing the eye as women captured in cage like compartments moved down the catwalk, their breasts dimly exposed through networks of black and white strips. As the caging digressed the collection began to boast a wealth of minimalist pieces, block colours of black and white making up newly shaped versions of the basic blouse. Platform heels were reminiscent of the softer gladiator styles seen on the high street and dresses were panelled in a contemporary body con style.
But as bird like as models may have appeared, her lashes batting like wings, there was nothing that prepared you for the metallic shine of Pugh’s finale models, their faces contained with in streamline suffocating-like structures. The show was an overall seductive success.
