F/W 2011 Trend: Polka Dots

From right to left: Key looks from Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Y-3.

It’s hard to believe that summer is already halfway over, but as July comes to an end, it’s time to start stocking up on fall’s must-have items.

One of next season’s most popular trends is sure to be polka dots. Marc Jacobs thoroughly debunked the old myth that you can’t wear a pattern from head to toe by having models traipse down the runway doing just that. Everything from hosiery to headgear was covered in spots! What made this collection different from your grandmother’s closet, however, is the fact that all those polka dots were combined with refined, structured silhouettes and futuristic materials. Dots also popped up on the runway at Stella McCartney in the form of circles of various sizes layered over delicate tulle and black point d’esprit adorning the sleeves of curve-hugging tops. Yohji Yamamoto showed that polka dots can be sporty too by layering a feminine shift covered in dots under a thick, structured jacket at the Y-3 F/W 2011 runway show.

It's all about Polka Dots this season.
