Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 RTW
If the massive amount of Twitter/Facebook action caused by the Marc Jacobs show last night is any indication, this collection might go down as one of the most successful shows during all of NYFW.
One thing is for sure: Polka dots were all the rage at the Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 RTW show on Monday (February 14, 2011) in New York City. The dots ranged in size from small to over-sized, and were visible on almost every surface. Shiny black dots were embossed on everything from fur to bonded wool; nothing, it seems, was off-limits to Jacobs this season.
Jacobs worked closely with the British company House of Harlot on the collection’s rubber dresses and latex button-downs. These synthetic materials were combined with feminine details—a hint of lace and the occasional ruffle. In many ways, this collection appears to be a response to the more loose fabrics and silhouettes that appeared in his Spring 2011 show. Regardless, the beautiful shapes these clothes create against the body are certainly a sign of things to come, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of New York Fashion Week has to offer.
