Robert Hudson
Robert Hudson: old junk into new masterpieces
By: Melodie Duperval.
After a long hiatus in the art community, sculpture mastermind Robert Hudson is back in the studio. He’s not new. Part of the San Francisco’s Funk movement in the 60s, Hudson is an expert in juggling form, color, and texture in his industrial creations. Think of Surrealism, Dada, and even pop culture as the influences that drive his creativity. The artist has been exhibited for over four decades and has become best known for his large-scale repurposed welded steel, poly-chromed steel, and bronze.
It gets even better.
Despite the ongoing eco-art trends, Hudson’s use of discarded industrial objects has had no underlying eco-friendly agenda since the beginning. The simple fact is: being referred to as a sustainable art sculptor is merely a by-product of his work.
