We celebrated the FAULT Magazine 10 year anniversary in style with the likes of Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens, Rae Morris, Felicity Hayward, GIRLI, Dakota Blue Richards, Jonny Nelson and Sascha & Mimi Bailey at UNIT London gallery last week.

While the BULLDOG Gin sponsored bar served their signature gin & tonics (with a slice of crisp grapefruit on the rim) downstairs, guests enjoyed an exhibition of some of our favourite-ever FAULT shoots with the likes of Kylie Jenner, Usher, Ellie Goulding, Ben Barnes, Big Sean, Nick Jonas and Gary Numan. Well, we hope they enjoyed them, anyway!

Pride of place, of course, was our latest cover with Liam Gallagher. Shot by Jack Alexander, the front cover for FAULT 27: the Best of British Issue was the focal point for our showcase event that was catered exclusively by stupendous fro-yo trailblazers Snog and their brilliant new brand, Beltane & Pop.

The official ‘FAULT Magazine 10 year anniversary afterparty’ took place at Mahiki Mayfair…we think. To be honest, we weren’t quite sure where we were once our private section started overflowing with bottles of vodka and Mahiki’s trademark treasure chests!

Alesso sits down with FAULT Magazine to discuss success, collaborations and new music!

EDM has risen to new levels of prominence in recent years and right at the very heart of that, stands Alesso. Despite acquiring success and fame as a musician, DJ and producer at a very young age, he bucks the trend of being persistently in the media. His achievements are undeniable yet he has remained grounded and almost enigmatic as he oscillates from a reserved disciple of music to lord of the dance (music). Since 2012 Alesso has been charting gold and platinum hits with big names and has wracked up an obscene number of downloads and plays across all mediums. If he can achieve all that he has in four years and at 25 years of age, you have to wonder what he will be able to achieve in forty.

You have had well in excess of half a billion plays across all platforms with hundreds of millions of views on Youtube alone. When was the first time you felt as if you’d ‘made it’?

I don’t ever feel like I’ve made it. I’ve set goals for myself since the beginning of my career. Like I hope I get to release a track, then I hope I play at least one live show a month, I hope I get to signed to a label. So each experience for me has been incredible and I don’t take anything for granted.

You’ve played some of the best festivals and venues in the world and this got me wondering: what would you say is the best moment of your career so far?

There isn’t just one particular moment I can pick. I’ve had a few. Headlining the Sahara Tent at Coachella not only once but twice. My own show at the globe in Stockholm and now this year headlining Summerburst festival has all been monumental moments for me.

If you could choose to play anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I love going to Asia. It’s one of my favorite places in the world and I enjoy my time there so much.

You’ve collaborated with A-list music stars like Calvin Harris, Usher and David Guetta. So, in a similar vein, if you got to choose your next collaboration, with whom would it be?

Drake.

Knowing what you know now, is there any warnings you would have given 16-year-old you before your music career took off?

Enjoy every moment. Don’t take anything for granted. And it’s always going to be hard work.

Similarly, what advice would you give to aspiring musicians who want to follow in similar footsteps to you?

Just stay passionate, be confident, be brave and you will find your way.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?

I think I would still have a job in entertainment or music in some capacity.

What should we look out for from you in 2016?

New music!

What is your FAULT?

Making people dance!

Usher – first look at our exclusive shoot for FAULT Issue 19’s front cover

FAULT Magazine Issue 19 – the Millions Issue will feature legendary R&B recording artist Usher as its front cover feature this Fall. Having already sold nearly 23million records in the US alone, Usher is undoubtedly one of the most instantly recognisable faces in the music industry today – just as he was after the release of his first UK number one single, ‘You Make Me Wanna’, back in 1997.

Usher’s feature – which includes an in-depth interview alongside the exclusive photoshoot by photographer Sinisha Nisevic and stylists Sammy and Judy (aka renowned LA celebrity stylists The Kids) – runs over 13 pages in the print issue. Usher also covers the Men’s Fashion section inside the magazine.

The shoot, based on the issue’s theme of ‘Millions‘, is designed to showcase two distinct sides to Usher’s character. In one sense, the shoot presents the public face of a star known and loved by ‘millions’ but, juxtaposed with this, we also see a revelatory side of a sensitive, thoughtful man. The latter gives insight into the thought process of a man who has reached the point in his career where keeping his fans happy and challenging both himself and the limits of his creativity have become his most important goals.

There is an Usher who poses happily with models and plays up to the camera and also the Usher who dances in the studio as much for his own amusement as for the sake of a great photo. The great thing for Usher, one feels, is that for him– more often than not – those two worlds are intertwined.

In his interview, entitled ‘The Man Who Can Do it All’, Usher discusses his role on ‘The Voice’, his motivations and goals for producing music that he loves, regardless of commercial success, his upcoming acting role in ‘Hands of Stone’, the biopic of famed boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and, of course, the main themes of his highly anticipated new album.

Usher - FAULT Magazine Issue 19 - inside 2 WEB

Interview by Heather Seidler

FAULT: Did you learn anything from doing ‘The Voice’ that you’ll use in your own career?

Usher: Part of the reason why I did ‘The Voice’ was so people would get a chance to see a different perception of me….The more I know about life, the more I know about people, the greater the person I am, the more understanding I have about how to make music and how to do things that will grow us as people.

[So making this album was] not about making commercial hits?

I don’t feel that I’ve got to sell out this tour, or sell crazy amounts of albums, or have the number one single. It’s great to have all those things, but that isn’t what I’m doing.

Let’s talk about the movie you just finished, Hands of Stone. Tell me about your role as Sugar Ray Leonard.

The film revolves around a very compelling story in history. A lot of people want to know what happened with Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard during that infamous fight. Why did he quit? Why did he walk out of the ring? No one knows the truth. We address all of that. It’s going to be a great piece of work, because of everyone involved in telling this really significant part of boxing history.

I spent time with him [Sugar Ray Elonard] in Atlanta, and here in Los Angeles. We boxed together; we chilled. He became a great friend of mine, almost like a brother to me.

Tell me about the new album you’re working on.

It’s still a work in progress. I’m at a place where I really just want to have fun and do what I feel is significant to me.These last three years have been the hardest times of my life. I’ve wanted to break down, I’ve wanted to quit. I’ve wanted to throw in the towel but my spirit wouldn’t allow me… The one thing the album represents is confidence. Not confidence in a cocky way, but being open about what I feel, take it or leave it. If I’m not honest about my feelings then you’ll never know how I really feel.

Who are some of the people you’ve been jamming with, who’s producing and working with you on it?

I reached out to work with people that I haven’t worked with before like Ryan Tedder, Ed Sheeran, and Skrillex. Also people who I have worked with before like Diplo…and Pharrell [Williams].

‘She Came to Give it to You’ – the new single from Usher’s upcoming album – is out on 28th September

Usher releases video for ‘She Came To Give It To You’

Usher-feat.-Nicki-Minaj-She-Came-to-Give-It-to-You-iTunes

Unless you’ve spent the last few days under a rock on Mars with ear plugs in, you are fully aware of two things: 1) People have been pouring ice cold water on their heads to raise money for ALS and 2) Usher performed ‘She Came to Give It to You’ live at the VMAs along side Nicki Minaj and people haven’t stopped talking about it since.

unnamed

We have now been treated to an accompanying music video for the new single. The track is everything loyal fans have grown to love about Usher’s voice while the music video sees Usher prove that he is still king of the dance-floor as he slides, pops, locks and shows off his fancyfootwork.  Not to be missed is a cameo from the tracks producer Pharrell Williams, who seems to work on every hit single this year so this can only been seen as a good omen.

While the video begins simple enough with Usher entering an electronics store, it soon turns into a surreal club scene fit with gravity defying dance moves as Usher croons on stage before following a girl into a puzzling  M. C. Escher-esque stairwell.

usher-nicki-minaj-video-467

Of course we can’t forget to mention Nikki Minaj’s perfectly delivered verse midway through. As a rapper, Minaj has been churning out the best features and singles reminiscent of her early string of hits which propelled her to stardom. This verse is no exception, it makes sense, it’s gibberish free and is the icing on the cake for yet another Usher hit single.

While we hopelessly tried to keep it a secret it’s pretty much known that Usher is set to feature in the next issue of FAULT. While we’ve been inundated with messages regarding the feature, we can reveal that your wait is almost over! Just keep things FAULT for a few more days and all shall be revealed. In the mean time, Check out the music video below to get your Usher fix until the big reveal!
