FAULT issue 10 stars Far East Movement release new track: ‘Grimey Thirsty’

Remember when the airwaves were dominated by ‘Like a G6‘? FAULT Issue 10 stars Far East Movement, the group behind the aforementioned 2010 Billboard Hot 100 hit, have just dropped a new song from their upcoming KTown Riot EP.

The track, ‘Grimey Thirsty‘, a trap-heavy party anthem, features a high-energy verse by YG. When asked about the recording process for the song, Far East Movement member Kevin Nish said, “When we were in the studio with Rell [Central-American EDM producer] working on the Murder Was The Bass project, we were just messing around and slowing down all the 150bpm trap tracks we had to 100bpm. The drums snapped in a different way that reminded us of some old school MOP energy that our fans could really rock with.”

The group has started to slowly unveil the tracklist for KTOWN Riot with previous releases such as ‘Bang It To The Curb’ and ‘The Illest’, which featured Riff Raff.

Can’t wait for the full EP? You’re in luck; the wait isn’t too long. KTOWN Riot has an official release date of October 28th. The group is currently on their Rager Nation tour and recently played for eager fans in Australia.

FAULT INTERVIEW: Stylist Rickey Kim

Rickey Kim Illustration by Richard Haines

FAULT had the pleasure of working with Los Angeles based Stylist Rickey Kim who dressed FAR EAST MOVEMENT for their feature in ISSUE 10. We recently caught up with Rickey to find out more about, his aesthetic, current projects and his take on the LA fashion scene.

FAULT: Rickey how are you doing?

I’m on my second cup of espresso, so very focused at the moment.

FAULT: Can you tell us about your fashion background?

I’ve worked in fashion for over ten years, mostly in the corporate realm of brand management. I’ve also designed and curated many projects ranging from art to fashion the last several years.

FAULT: How long have you been a stylist for?

Formally, I’ve only been a stylist for a little over a year.

FAULT: Who are some artists/clients that you work with?

I do consult with a variety of brands, however my main client at the moment is Far East Movement.

FAULT: What?s the best part of your job?

The best part is being able to see the fruits of your work in an immediate matter. When working on a fashion range, it takes months, sometimes up to a year to see your work come into light. I consider each opportunity I have in styling as a means to express what is on my mind at that particular moment and to let others experience that at the same time is extremely gratifying.

FAULT: How would you describe your aesthetic?

I consider fashion to be a psychological game. Hence, I enjoy keeping things very exact. My personal style somehow is always rooted to my black boots. I tend to dress around them.

FAULT: What’s the fashion scene like in LA?

Los Angeles is still very much coming of age when it comes to a fashion scene. I see hope. Maybe in a decade or so, we will see some good traction. What we champion in L.A. is this casual approach to fashion, sometime it works, a lot of times it doesn’t.

FAULT: Who are some of your favourite designers?

Raf Simons does an excellent job, particularly his use of colors. I also enjoy the sartorial experiments of Thom Browne.
Singularly, I support my dear friend, Mr. Siki Im, who is always one, if not two steps ahead of the curve in menswear.

FAULT: Who would be your dream client?

I don’t really think about it that way. I feel that I am my own client and my aesthetic and approach crosses over to whoever I am working with.

FAULT: What are you currently working on?

Two things: Film and Fashion. I have a fun circle of filmmakers which we go by http://charlottebobcats.com. It’s a film art project. In regards to fashion, very much busy styling and also working on a launch of a new clothing label.

FAULT: What is your FAULT?

Emails. They consume me.
